Disclaimers and copyright
This text book is an eBook and will undergo updates to correct errors, improve clarity, and add new content. Updates may occur frequently during the fall semester, which coincides with my course in biostatistics at Chaminade University. Although in spirit I welcome comments, corrections, and suggestions to improve coverage and content, I have closed comments at this site to minimize spam.
Equations were created with LaTeX and saved as PNG images, or embedded in text (QuickLaTeX WordPress plug-in). The manuscript was type set from html with Markup language and Typora (version 0.9.9.17.4), and the final eBook was generated and edited with Calibre (version 3.28).
Use of references and citations. Introductory text books generally lack in-line citations. The absence of in-line citations improves readability, perhaps, but at the very real expense of giving credit to the original and to providing the reader the opportunity to verify facts and opinions presented. I have tried a balance: I included in-line citations to references I have relied upon to allow the reader access to the original material. I have, however, refrained from an exhaustive, dissertation-like reference listing for each point raised in the book. What I have learned about statistics comes from the publications from many real statisticians and this text stands on on their work: I apologize in advance to any author whose work has not been given proper credit and welcome comments and suggestions to improve the reference documentation in subsequent versions. Mistakes or mischaracterizations are, of course, mine alone.
A disclaimer. Because this is a biostatistics book, many of the examples and problems come from the medical and biomedical research literature. Nothing in this manuscript, or included as part of any accompanying text, web site, or supplemental material to this manuscript, should be construed as an attempt to offer or render a medical opinion or otherwise engage in the practice of medicine. I may be a doctor, but I’m not that kind of doctor.
Financial and opinion disclaimers. This site, Mike’s Workbook for Biostatistics, is solely supported by me and I don’t monetize the site. Responsibility for the content rests with me, not my employer, Chaminade University of Honolulu.
