Homework 2B: Descriptive statistics

Central tendencies

1. ?median

na.rm = FALSE — default, if NA present, then would not be removed.

3. mean

5. Mean will be greater than median. Mode doesn’t make sense to calculate for ratio scale data. Right skewed means most data towards left with outliers increasing values (towards right). Can use beta distribution with different shape parameters to investigate. Simple code follows

myLeft <- rbeta(1000,5,2); hist(myLeft)
mean(myLeft); median(myLeft)
myRight <- rbeta(1000,2,5); hist(myRight)
mean(myRight); median(myRight)
myNorm <- rbeta(1000,5,5); hist(myNorm)
mean(myNorm); median(myNorm)
